Elmina Sharks coach Yaw Acheampong has praised his charges after picking a priceless 2-1 away victory over Ashanti Gold in Ghana Premier League matchday 23 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Goals from Eric Owusu and Benjamin Tweneboah gave the debutants a 2-0 lead before Prince Owusu scored the consolation for the hosts in the second-half.
“It was a difficult game but I’m happy that our tactics worked, it was perfect victory and we deserved it,” Acheampong said.
“I want to congratulate the players for the hard work. I think we knew Ashanti Gold are good now in the league before this match so we were very careful. They were on a run of four games without a defeat so we decided to soak the pressure from them as much as we could and after finding spaces in their defence, my players did very well to score the two quick goals.
"I think by now we are 50 per cent certain of achieving our target of escaping relegation. But we still have to work hard to make sure we are at 80 per cent or 90 per cent out of danger before we can at least relax a bit,” he added.
Sharks have moved two places up to 11th position with 30 points and they will welcome Bechem United to the Nduom Sports Stadium next week.
