Young Bafana introduces new U18 coach Carlo Krieling

I am 26 years of age and currently a CAF A License coached, I started coaching at the age of 18 while studying Coaching Science at ETA.

I started coaching at Saxon Rovers FC in 2009, my childhood club. After two years coaching at Rovers I realised that I needed to move on to further educate myself and face new challenges.

In the years that followed, I had coaching spells at Vasco Da Gama, Atlantic Nacional, Hellenic FC, Stellenbosch University High Performance (Maties FC) and now Young Bafana.

I have worked in youth football ever since I started coaching, with my charges ranging between the ages of 4 – 18.

Over the years, I have learnt that the most talented footballers are the boys/girls that are less fortunate than others.

Academy setups like Young Bafana have given boys from less fortunate homes an opportunity to excel in football and recently we have seen out boys going for trials at the highest profile teams in South Africa and Africa.

For me, YB is one of the top structures in academy level football in Cape Town and I believe being here will do well for my personal growth as a coach.

My first training session at Young Bafana as head coach went really well, especially since the boys had hit a dip in form recently.

I prepared my session for the fixture against Old Mutual Academy (Western Cape Engen Winners) knowing that we were up against a team that’s confidence is extremely high.

The session went well as the boys quickly caught on as to what was expected of them and I can gladly say it was executed when it came to match day.

My role as head coach of the u18 team I want to continue the development of all the boys, and hopefully we continue producing boys to play at the highest level possible, be it PSL or abroad; as well as continue pushing for league success as we are a few points behind Ajax Cape Town and Old Mutual Academy.
