Roberto Martinez has hailed the attitude of his players at Wigan Athletic and can see his ambitious plans beginning to blossom.

Martinez earned a reputation at Swansea City for inspiring the best from his squad and masterminding attractive, possession football. Mixed results at Wigan have triggered concerns that the Spaniard's philosophy cannot function at Premier League level.

But following a weekend win against West Ham United, Martinez has faith that his methods are being taken on board by his highly receptive players.

He told the club's official website: "We have a very talented squad and part of the challenge is for us to fulfil the potential we have here, and I think that slowly we'll see the team developing, growing together, showing great partnerships across the pitch and having a great attitude which all together will bring you points throughout the season.

"Every player is starting to master what they are good at and that allows partnerships to form across the pitch and for the team to strengthen in different areas too."

Wigan fans were excited with the summer signing of Mohamed Diame from Real Vallecano. The promising midfielder is rapidly adapting to English football, having cut his teeth in Spain and his native France.

"Momo [Diame] said in the week that he was aware of the changes between Spanish and English football, and knew where he had to improve,"said Martinez.

"That's the first important aspect you need to realise when you move to a different country and it's typical of the sense of responsibility we have in the squad."

Wigan face a test in attitude this weekend against an Arsenal side reeling from last week's controversial defeat against Manchester City.
