The Real Madrid superstar blasted a sensational hat-trick against Sweden to see Portugal through to World Cup 2014 but has he edged ahead of his competition for the award?
Cristiano Ronaldo pressed his case to win the Ballon d'Or with a stunning individual performance that saw Portugal past Sweden and into World Cup 2014 on Tuesday.
The Real Madrid star snatched three fine goals to see off the Seleccao's Zlatan Ibrahimovic-inspired opponents in Solna – and you can click here to watch his hat-trick.
With reports that Fifa has reopened voting for the Ballon d'Or in the wake of the match, Ronaldo may fancy his chances of having changed a few minds.
Media, captains and national coaches are involved in the voting process for Fifa's yearly award and the Portuguese's outstanding goalscoring record – with 67 to his name in all competitions over the calendar year to date – must put him in a strong position.
He faces stiff competition from Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and treble-winning Bayern Munch midfielder Franck Ribery, however – the latter pulling off a remarkable World Cup play-off result on Tuesday as well as France came back to beat Ukraine.
Do you think that Ronaldo's play-off exploits should be enough to sway the voting his way? Would he be the right winner of the Ballon d'Or?
