Norwich midfielder Fer gets Netherlands call-up

The 23-year-old could be in line for his third international appearance against Hungary after Stijn Schaars and Swansea City's Jonathan de Guzman withdrew with injuries
Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has called up Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer after two players withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Swansea City loanee Jonathan de Guzman has dropped out with a groin problem, while a knee injury has ruled PSV's Stijn Schaars out of contention.

Fer has only two previous international caps to his name, having made his debut against Ukraine in 2010.

But Van Gaal has license to test inexperienced players as the Oranje face Hungary and Turkey in their final qualifiers, having already secured their place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Netherlands boss earlier recalled Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong and Gregory van der Wiel to the national setup when his preliminary squad was announced on September 25.
