thumbnail Hello,

The 24-year-old will fly back to London on Saturday to be assessed by Arsenal's medical team, but is not expected to be out for long as suffering a "minor hip/groin injury"

Theo Walcott has officially withdrawn from England’s squad for the World Cup qualifying double-header against San Marino and Montenegro due to a "minor hip/groin injury", Arsenal have confirmed.

The 24-year-old suffered the setback during training ahead of Friday’s game in Serravalle and will fly back to England on Saturday before being checked out by club side Arsenal's medical staff.

An Arsenal statement read: "Theo Walcott will be forced to miss out on England's games against San Marino and Montenegro due to a minor hip/groin injury.

"The Arsenal forward sustained the problem in training with the national team on Thursday and will fly back on Saturday to be assessed by the club's medical staff."

England face minnows San Marino before heading to Montenegro for a top-of-the-table Group H clash on Tuesday.

Walcott has been in blistering form for Arsenal this season, notching 18 goals in 37 games, and penned a new five-year contract worth a reported £100,000 in January to end speculation over an end-of-season exit from the Emirates Stadium.
