Dempsey fired his side into an early lead in their first game of the summer showpiece, but Ghana soon began to dominate the game. Andre Ayew eventually leveled the match in the 82nd minute but American defender John Brooks headed in the winner with four minutes left on the clock.
Meanwhile, the Jurgen Klisnmann's men are still awaiting MRI results on Jozy Altidore and Matt Besler, both of whom left the Ghana game with hamstring injuries.
