Lahm: I could play in midfield for Germany

The 30-year-old has excelled in a new role for Bayern Munich this season and would be happy to play in front of the back four during this summer's World Cup in Brazil
Bayern Munich star Philipp Lahm believes that he could play as a midfielder for Germany at World Cup 2014.

The 30-year-old has found himself filling a new role for his club since the arrival of Pep Guardiola last summer after spending his entire career until then at full-back.

With Sami Khedira, Ilkay Gundogan and Sven Bender all nursing long-term injuries just four months before the tournament, Lahm says that he would be happy to play in midfield for his country, whether it be alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger or Toni Kroos.

"We have played together as a 'double six' but every opponent was very deep, so we had to move a lot," he told Bild.

"Everything is an option. We played at Bayern earlier this season, also with Toni Kroos, when Thiago was still injured. We train together every day, so it's possible."

Schweinsteiger has made his comeback from a lengthy injury over the last couple of weeks and Lahm added: "It is important that Bastian gets back to 100 per cent fitness."
