Sami Khedira has caused concern for Real Madrid and Germany after picking up a 'severe' injury in the 1-1 draw with Italy on Friday.
The midfielder suffered a knee problem in a collision with Azzurri star Andrea Pirlo and has had to be taken to hospital, with Mannschaft defender Jerome Boateng revealing the incident ruined the evening for Joachim Low's men.
"The atmosphere in the dressing room was sad," he told reporters. "Not because of the draw, but because it seems that Sami has been injured severely."
Germany head coach Low refused to estimate the extent of his player's injury, but admitted that he is not confident about a speedy recovery.
"The fact that he had to go to the hospital is not good," the trainer conceded, after Mats Hummels' goal had been cancelled out by Ignazio Abate in Milan.
Khedira's injury looks to have definitely ruled him out of contention for featuring in Germany's friendly with England next week, according to team manager Olivier Bierhoff.
"To me it is almost sure he won't be able to play on Tuesday," he said.
