The forward finally brought an end to his barren spell after going 1224 minutes without scoring a single goal when he netted in les Bleus' emphatic win over Australia

Karim Benzema admits he is relieved after ending his goal drought for France.

The 25-year-old had previously gone 1224 minutes without finding the net for Les Blues prior to his second-half strike during the 6-0 friendly win over Australia at the Parc des Princes.

After enduring an indifferent start to the season with Real Madrid, Benzema felt that a lot of pressure had finally been lifted following his goal.

''I scored that goal which had been weighing a little on my head," he told TF1 after the match.

He went on to reflect on France's performance throughout the match, underlining the nature of the comprehensive victory should inspire confidence from their fans.

"In these games the audience has fun," said Benzema.

France host Finland next in their final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday and will need a win if they are to stand a chance of beating Spain to top spot in Group I.

Didier Deschamps' men sit second in the table with 14 points, three behind the defending world champions who beat Belarus 2-1 on Friday.
