Barcelona defender Adriano has said that it will be a "scandal" if Brazil is not properly prepared to host the World Cup.
The country staged the Confederations Cup earlier this year in what was viewed as a dress rehearsal for next summer's showpiece event but, despite the Selecao winning the competition on home soil, the tournament was scarred by mass protests outside games and throughout the nation.
With fears over whether a number of stadia will be ready in time for the World Cup, Adriano is praying that the football on offer will be allowed to take centre stage in June.
"It would be a scandal if the situation in Brazil does not improve, no doubt," the the 28-year-old told Goal. "That is also what is feared in Brazil: from top to bottom it is feared that something will go wrong.
"It is a risk in Brazil and people are hoping that it will benefit everyone in the country and that it will change a lot.
"It's a shame. The World Cup is close and there are things that still need sorted in Brazil, things that unfortunately will not be finished overnight. Hopefully at least the facilities and the stadia will be finished on deadline.
"I hope everyone in Brazil can help each other to be such a good host for people to stay there in a good taste and that they would like to return, not only for football but for vacations."
Adriano, who has been capped 17 times by his country since making his debut in 2003, was much more optimistic about the current crop of Selecao stars having the potential to leave their mark on the tournament.
"I hope that Brazil will be the champions; hopefully we can get to the final and the cup will stay with us," he added. "It took a lot to attract people to the team.
"There was widespread criticism after the team were not playing well, asking the coach to change the squad, but the players stood together and now people want to see Brazilian football again.
"This could be one of the best teams of recent years, and it has taken time to arrive because previous teams have been so good and have won World Cups.
"People used to stop everything to watch a game in Brazil and after the Confederations Cup it is like that again.
"Everybody wants to see Brazil again and hopefully this team can win the World Cup because it would be very important for the country."
