The head of the country's organising committee has stressed that it was not a mistake to give the tournament to QatarThe head of Qatar's 2022 World Cup organising committee Hassan al-Thawadi has insisted Fifa made the right decision to award the World Cup to a country from the Middle East.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter stated earlier this month that it may have been a mistake to award the competition to Qatar due to the heat during the summer and plans to move the tournament to the winter, but Al Thawadi has insisted the Arab country will not disappoint regardless of the date of the World Cup.
"Qatar is the right place, the Middle East is the right place," Al-Thawadi told BBC Sport.
"We are representing the Middle East, it is a Middle Eastern World Cup, so it is the right place. The Middle East deserves to host a major tournament.
"We've worked very, very hard to ensure we're within the rules of the bidding, within the rules of the hosting agreement.
"At the same time we're delivering on all the promises that we've made. We're working very hard to deliver it. The commitment is there."
Blatter will go to Fifa's board in early October to propose the World Cup be changed to the winter.
