Lionel Messi scored twice from the penalty spot as Argentina booked their place at World Cup 2014 with a 5-2 victory over Paraguay.

Alejandro Sabella's men were the dominant side at Estadio Defensores del Chaco, with Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and Maxi Rodriguez also on the scoresheet.

Messi combined brilliantly with Aguero just after the half-hour mark to regain the lead, following a Paraguay equaliser gifted by Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero, before Di Maria and and the Barcelona star put the result beyond doubt.
