Norwich goalkeeper Ruddy keen on England recall after return from injury

The 26-year-old goalkeeper is fit and ready to feature in the end-of-season international friendlies with the Republic of Ireland and Brazil after returning from injury
Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has set his sights on an England recall after returning from injury on Sunday.

The 26-year-old made his return from a five-month lay-off with a thigh injury in Norwich’s 4-0 demolition of West Brom last weekend.

That victory made sure the Canaries would be in the Premier League next season and the stopper now hopes to be involved in England’s friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil at the end of the season.

Ruddy told Sky Sports: “To be involved in the England squad would be fantastic.

“Whether or not it has come too soon remains to be seen, but it would be fantastic to be given the opportunity.”

The former Everton goalkeeper was selected for Euro 2012 last summer, but was forced to withdraw with injury before he made his eventual debut against Italy in an August friendly.

Roy Hodgson is set to reveal his England squad for the friendlies on Thursday, a day after watching Chelsea play Benfica in the Europa League final.

England play rivals Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Wednesday 29th May before meeting Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday 2nd June.
