Extra Time: Liverpool top Manchester United in Twitter hashtag table

The Reds finished just ahead of their rivals and were only pipped to first place by the summer’s Paralympics, while Arsenal, Leeds and Spurs also finished inside the top ten

Liverpool may currently sit well behind rivals Manchester United in the Premier League table at the moment, but they did finish above them in another table.

The Reds were the most-used football Twitter hashtag, with #LFC taking second spot and only the Paralympics featuring more.

The Red Devils came in next ahead of the other massive sporting event to take place in London - the Olympics.

Three other English football sides featured in the top ten, with Arsenal taking up sixth and tenth place, Leeds eighth and Tottenham ninth.

Surely, though, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be able to content himself with finishing behind Brendan Rodgers’ team as he eyes up a strong finish to 2012, fresh from beating local rivals Manchester City 3-2 on Sunday.
