The Bolton midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the FA Cup game against Tottenham that was later abandoned, and is now set to leave hospital shortly
Fabrice Muamba has given hospital workers at the London Chest Hospital a giant cake to offer his thanks for saving his life.
The Bolton midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during the game against Tottenham on March 17. Doctors later told how his heart stopped for 78 minutes after he collapsed on the pitch.
However, to the relief of thousands the midfielder is on the road to recovery and had this message put on the 16 inch vanilla sponge:
"To all the Medical Staff at the London Chest Hospital that helped me on the road to recovery, from Fabrice Muamba and family."
He is being transferred to the high dependency unit of the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle as he continues his recovery. He is having a special defibrillator pacemaker fitted and is expected to spend days rather than weeks in his new surroundings.
Optimistic predictions of a return to playing football have been mooted but it may be a touch early for that. Regardless, Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has promised the midfielder a job for life at the club should he be unable to return to first team action.
