The spirit among the France camp was a far cry from that of four years ago, as Les Bleus celebrated a comfortable 3-0 win over Honduras in their opening fixture of this year's tournament.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin didn't take part in their victory - much to team-mate Luke Shaw's disappointment - but described it as a "perfect" night for Didier Deschamps' men, who look clear favourites to top Group E.

Their European neighbours - and group rivals - Switzerland were also feeling distinctly happy after a last-gasp win over Ecuador earlier on Sunday, as Johan Djourou spent Father's Day celebrating with his dad after the game.

With the Netherlands camp also spotted in high spirits and the Germany and Belgium squads looking ahead to their opening fixtures, Goal rounds up the best of the World Cup on social media...
