Word on the Tweet: Team GB gear up for the Olympics and Chiles moves in on Lineker

Elsewhere, Yossi Benayoun updates us on his future, David Villa keeps up his return to full fitness and John Ruddy is put through his pre-season paces
The new Premier League season is almost upon us as all of the top flight's clubs start to get stuck into their pre-season preparations, meanwhile there's the small matter of this summer's Olympic Games to look forward to.

We turn to the world of Twitter to keep us entertained on these cold, lonely summer nights, with Charlie Adam offering us his opinion on the state of the Scottish Premier League, Benoit Assout Ekotto getting even more brilliant by the day and John Heitinga professing his love for his current club.

So without further ado....

"Looking forward to experiencing the Olympic village today and tomorrow before travelling up north to prepare for our game v Brazil! #2012"

Birmingham goalkeeper and Team GB hopeful Jack Butland remains excited for the Olympic Games to kick start into action.

"On to the olympic village now though. Should be fun #olympics #London2012"

Bolton striker Marvin Sordell, the man who swapped the Championship in January with Watford for the Championship in August with Owen Coyle's side goes on a tour of the Olympic village with his Team GB team-mates.

"The Man Utd Tour starts NOW!! On board the 747, ready for take off! Tweet you the other side! 13hrs flight, long haul! Ipod on shuffle!"

One man apparently happy to escape the quite frankly rank summer we're having is Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand as the club begin their pre-season tour of South Africa.

"I see that a lot of u are still asking about my future,I'm concentrating on my pre season with CFC, if anything will change I will tweet"

Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, states that he will keep his followers udated on his future as and when it is decided as he looks surprlus to requirements at Stamford Bridge this season.

"My opinion it has to be Dundee as in any league there is 2 go up 2 come down easy. Dunfermline already relegated before rangers decision."

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam offers his opinion on the Scottish Premier League's decision to replace Rangers with Dundee instead of already relegated Dunfermline in next season's top flight, backing the move.

"Today we started the preseason with the medical test. Happy for being again with my teammates. Tomorrow, first training!"

Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa, who spent a large part of last season out injured with a broken leg, updates us on his comeback from injury.

"Letter arrived this morning to my home addressed to Adrian Chiles. Don't mind if he fancies my job, but my house..."

Former England striker and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has a go at satire. Fails. Don't quit the day job, Gary, otherwise someone waiting in the wings may just be after it.

"Tomorrow i'm back in training! Can't wait to start and see my #Everton mates again! #proudtobeblue"

Everton defender John Heitinga is already looking forward to being back amongst his club team-mates after a summer to forget with Holland at Euro 2012.

"Why was I up and on a bike at 5:30 English time with no kids to be seen??!! Oh yes I remember…pre-season!"

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy gives all a snapshot into the life of a professional footballer at this time of the year. It sounds horrible.

"Shoreditch! This is the place !!! Luv it!!! LoL"

Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto and all-round good egg tweets his love for a 'hip' London nightspot after a story emerged of his table football prowess on a night out in East London.
