Word on the Tweet: ‘We should stick to an Englishman’ - Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and others react to Fabio Capello resignation
We take a look back at what was discussed on the social networking site following the Italian leaving his post as England manager, just four months before Euro 2012

Every day, we here at Goal.com search throughout Twitter for the best, and worst, of what is coming out of those Premier League stars and former legends' fingertips, and this last 24 hours, as you would expect, has seen one particular topic constantly being discussed.
Fabio Capello’s resignation from the role of England manager has evidently been on the mind of many involved in football, but some wasted no time in waving the Italian away and offering their own suggestions as to a replacement.
With his finger continually on the pulse, QPR midfielder Joey Barton was one of the first to react to the news before a siege of reaction from others followed…
The ever-reserved Joey Barton gave his take on the post-Capello lay of the land.
“I think we need an English manager now, we don't need anything else
lost in translation....Harry Redknapp would be my choice by a distance.” Former England captain and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, hinted that the language barrier was never fully overcome under Italian Capello.
“Don't know if was just me but it never felt right in the first place knowing the England Manager was heading off after the Euros regardless.
Surely we will stick to an Englishman as our next manager. And that should run right through the squad from players to tea lady IMO.”
Michael Owen followed suit with the idea of an English appointment.
“Harry wants it. You can tell from his interview! 'Haven't thought about it'. 'Focused on Spurs'. Just a matter of time”
Former Tottenham man Gary Lineker read between the lines of Harry Redknapp’s Thursday morning ambush interview which, as always, was dictated from the front seat of his car.

“Gutted capello has quit. Good guy and top coach. Got to be english to replace him. Harry redknapp for me.”
Wayne Rooney was full of praise for the outgoing Italian but very quick to jump on ‘Redknapp for England’ bandwagon.
“It s strange to see every year of a big competition, England find a way to disrupt their chances with controversy stuff. #capelloResigned”
Deciding to ignore the managerial troubles in his home name of France, new Tottenham signing Louis Saha also waded in on the Capello story
“It would work perfectly well for #eng if Redknapp job shared until end of season. For #THFC it would be distraction & potentially disastrous.”
Goal.com’s chief correspondent Wayne Veysey gave his expert view on a possible option for the FA and Tottenham
“There's only one choice for england manager for me......... Mike Bassett #44F******2!”
Sunderland striker Frazier Campbell has thrown a different hat into the ring, fictional England manager Mike Bassett. Hilarious.

"I'm just really looking to build on that performance and get more games under my belt and more goals.
"It's something I've been waiting for for a long time. I've had a few caps under my belt and one or two starts. So, just to get the goal today, I'm really delighted."
"We know each other's games and obviously we're training with each other day in and day out.
"So, it was really good to start up top with him."
