The 22-year-old has been one of the stand-out players at this summer’s World Cup, netting four times in four appearances for the Selecao in their run to the quarter-finals.

The former Schalke manager compared the Barcelona forward to Germany’s Thomas Muller, who also has four goals to his name in Brazil.

And Magath insisted he is not impressed by players of Neymar’s ilk, saying he would be inclined to opt instead for a more team-minded option, such as the Bayern Munich man.

"I like team players, such as Thomas Muller. I'd like to have him [in my team],” the 60-year-old said on German TV channel ZDF.

"Players like Neymar, where it’s all about the individual scoring goals... I don’t know.

"I probably wouldn’t even take him for free."

Magath has confirmed he is staying on at Craven Cottage after suffering relegation with the London outfit last season, and it is believed he is looking to secure the services of Ross McCormack as he rebuilds for the Championship.
