Luis Suarez has been given a nine-match international suspension and a four-month ban from football for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini.

The sanction means that the striker will miss the remainder of the World Cup along with Liverpool's first nine games of the new Premier League campaign, which includes fixtures against Manchester City, Tottenham and the Merseyside derby at home to Everton.

The ban also stipulates that Suarez is prohibited from attending any football match - meaning that he cannot even watch Liverpool at Anfield while he is sidelined.
