Following a 2-0 win over holders Spain which secured a last 16 place, the midfielder has claimed that his side have the desire to win and will be the surprise team of the World Cup

Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal believes his country can go far in this summer’s World Cup and be the surprise team of the tournament.

Chile, who were drawn in a difficult Group B, were underdogs to reach the last 16 of the competition but a 3-1 win against Australia in their opening game and a 2-0 victory over holders Spain secured the South Americans a place in the knockout round.

Charles Aranguiz and Eduardo Vargas scored to secure the win over Spain on Wednesday and, while the result means Chile will advance from Group B, it also led to Vicente del Bosque's side crashing out of a major competition for the first time in eight years.

“We are a young team with the will to win,” Vidal told Sky Sports. “We can go far in this competition and we will be the surprise team of the World Cup.

“On a personal level, I'm feeling fine. I had a good game against Spain and this was very important to me.”

Chile face the Netherlands, who also secured their place in the last 16 after a 3-2 victory over Australia on Wednesday, on Monday 23 June at the Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo.
