The Liverpool full-back believes that the Three Lions have got the squad to improve on recent performances at World Cup 2014, but admitted they will need luck on their sideLiverpool defender Glen Johnson has urged England to banish their tag of a 'quarter-final team' at World Cup 2014 in Brazil next summer.
The 28-year-old, who has earned 47 caps, insists that the Three Lions are more than capable of exceeding their recent performances in major tournaments given the strength of their current squad.
Johnson did concede, however, that luck remained a necessary component of success on the international stage.
"With the squad we have got we can definitely do better in a major tournament," Johnson told reporters. "In each game there are tiny little elements that decide each game.
"A matter of inches can determine if you win, but ratio-wise we have been generally going out around the quarter-final stages so you certainly do want to improve on that."
England face Republic of Ireland on Wednesday before travelling to the World Cup host nation to face Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on June 2.
