"My grandson, Mateo, moves better on the pitch than Andy Carroll," the 56-year-old former Juventus attacker, who is reportedly in the running to be president of the Poland Football Association, said on national television.
"He has better co-ordination. He is very good at golf and tennis."
Poland currently sit third in the group on four points, having played one fewer game than Roy Hodgson's side, who sit top of Group H on seven points.
Both sides had fairly underwhelming Euro 2012 campaigns - the visitors on Tuesday night were beaten by Italy in the quarter-finals on penalties, while the co-hosts of the tournament failed to make it out of the group stage.
