thumbnail Hello,

Roy Hodgson's side needed a late Frank Lampard penalty to secure a point in their second World Cup qualification game but just who was most culpable for the Three Lions?

POLL

England struggled and stuttered to a 1-1 draw against Ukraine on Tuesday as an initially promising start to their World Cup qualification campaign hit a bump in the road at Wembley.

WEMBLEY WOE

 PLAYER RATING | TOM CLEVERLEY

 PLAYER RATING | JOLEON LESCOTT
 PLAYER RATING | PHIL JAGIELKA
 PLAYER RATING | STEVEN GERRARD

 PLAYER RATING | JAMES MILNER

 PLAYER RATING | ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN

Having beaten their eastern European visitors 1-0 during the group stages of Euro 2012, the Three Lions were expected to triumph again, this time on home soil, albeit in a less comfortable fashion than the 5-0 win over lowly Moldova on Friday.

Despite Jermain Defoe having a goal ruled out after referee Cuneyt Cakir awarded a soft free-kick in the build up to the Tottenham striker smashing home, England were on the back foot for large periods of the first half.

And Roy Hodgson's side would fall behind after 39 minutes, with Yevhen Konoplyanka's stunning long-range effort leaving Joe Hart with no chance as the ball flew past him and into the top corner to give Oleg Blokhin's side the lead.

Tom Cleverley squandered a host of presentable opportunities as the hosts went in one behind at the break while the likes of James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were struggling to make an impact as Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, who was later sent off, attempted to pull strings from deep.

With centre-back pairing Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka looking less than convincing at the back, Ukraine came close to doubling their lead, although the equaliser eventually came late in the second half as substitute Danny Welbeck earned a penalty which was expertly tucked away by Lampard.

HAVE YOUR SAY

So with just a point to show for their efforts, who was the most disappointing player in an England shirt on Tuesday night? Were the defence chiefly at fault for failing to stop Konoplyanka gliding inside before firing home or was a lack of creativity and flair in midfield to blame?
