It's fair to say Angel Di Maria's first season in English football with Manchester United did not go to plan. But while he had performed better for Argentina at the Copa America in their run until the semi-final, things were not exactly clicking.

His one assist in his country's first four matches, for example, was clearly intended for Lionel Messi but was played behind the Barcelona forward and found its way to Gonzalo Higuain.

Di Maria has even tried to score directly from corners on a couple of occasions, and despite going close he hasn't managed to quite pull it off.

But on Tuesday night, with Argentina under pressure to perform in the semis against Paraguay, he turned it on, tucking away two goals and sending in a sumptuous cross for Sergio Aguero to head home.

His brace came from just two shots on goal, making for a 100% conversion rate, and his assist was one of two chances created.

Di Maria will now go into Saturday's final against hosts Chile in top form. The winger has prompted and probed throughout la Albiceleste's campaign, creating 13 chances for team-mates in five matches, and against Paraguay he showed the kind of link-up play with Lionel Messi which was evident in their first match of the tournament - also against Paraguay.

The Barcelona man, by the way, racked up three assists in Concepcion.

With things starting to come together for Di Maria and the rest, here are his Copa America stats across the whole tournament so far:
