Brazil midfielder Jadson has explained the reason he was given a starting XI place against Paraguay in his side's second Copa America match.

The Shakhtar Donetsk player's introduction for Robinho was the only change made by Brazil coach Mano Menezes to the starting XI which had been involved in the goalless draw against Venezuela earlier in their first match.

That call proved to be crucial, as Jadson scored Brazil's first goal before being replaced by Elano at half-time. The 27-year-old has now revealed that the coach told him to the start the match in a bid to break through Paraguay's defence.

"I was told I was going to play Friday night, Mano spoke to me at the hotel," Jadson said after the match. "He told me Paraguay would start with three centre-backs and so I would start.

"On Saturday, he confirmed it at breakfast. In the training session that was not open to the press, I was on the starting team."
