The Brazilian midfielder was dismissed during Tijuana's meeting with Leon after flying into a tackle with caught his opponent on the thigh
Any challenge which catches an opponent on the thigh is likely to deliver a red card, with there little reason for boots to be flying that high.
Tijuana midfielder Juninho found that out to his cost during a recent meeting with Leon in the Mexican Liga MX.
The 27-year-old suffered an unfortunate rush of blood during a rather innocuous passage of play.
Leon had made their way into Tijuana territory, but were still a long way from goal and going nowhere when the incident occurred.
As the ball looped into the air following a 50-50 challenge in the middle of the park, Juninho came steaming in with his studs showing.
Having left Alexander Meija writhing on the floor, the former LA Galaxy man was shown a straight red card by an unimpressed match official.
Juninho did offer a shake of the head after being given his marching orders, but opted against engaging in an argument with the referee.
That is probably for the best, as there is little he could do to explain such a reckless act.
As it happens, his early departure from the contest did not cost Tijuana on the day, as they ran out 3-2 winners.
