Everton midfielder and South Africa captain Steven Pienaar has pulled out of the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the matches against Brazil and Mozambique with a thigh injury.

Pienaar picked up the knock in the Toffees’ 2-0 defeat away at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The 30-year old rejoined the Merseyside club this summer after leaving to join Tottenham in January 2011, but failed to make a significant impact at White Hart Lane.

Pienaar has played a key role in Everton's impressive start to the season, and boss David Moyes will surely be hoping his spell on the sidelines does not extend beyond the international break.

But one Everton player set for international duty is Leighton Baines, who appears likely to start in England’s game against Moldova on Friday after Ashley Cole withdrew from the squad with an ankle problem.
