thumbnail Hello,

The Baggies' captain has missed the majority of pre-season through injury, and wants to utilise the clash against Finland to ensure he is in peak condition for the campaign ahead

Chris Brunt believes Northern Ireland's friendly against Finland on Tuesday is a chance for him to regain fitness for the start of West Brom's Premier League campaign.

Brunt has missed most of pre-season with a calf strain and only made his comeback recently as a substitute against Nottingham Forest.

The former Sheffield Wednesday winger is looking to get as much preparation done as possible in order to be ready and the international friendly is the perfect opportunity for him to do so.

He told Sky Sports News: "Internationals at this stage are never good timing but, from my point of view, having missed virtually every friendly, it will be good to get some minutes under my belt.

"I should then get a better idea of how fit I am and hopefully I'll be involved in the first league game against Liverpool at the weekend."

Brunt admitted: "It's been a rubbish pre-season from my point of view. I went back to Belfast during the summer, went for a run, and just felt my calf go.

"Then it flared up again in Sweden but I felt okay against Forest so touch wood it is now fine."
