Chelsea striker Fernando Torres was substituted after only 15 minutes of Spain's friendly with Italy having suffered concussion, according to EFE.

The injury will raise fresh concerns over the fitness of the 27-year-old, who has endured a turbulent start to his career at Chelsea following his £50 million move in January.

Reports suggest that whilst the striker remained conscious, he was taken to hospital in Bari for further examination as a precaution.

Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique was also replaced by his team mate Sergio Busquets at half-time, with the defender reportedly limping from the field.

Chelsea kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday, against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
