Tottenham striker admits to thinking about the landmark during all of the build up to the game & is pleased to gain some momentum going into Saturday's clash against Macedonia
Keane’s record-equalling goal was enough to see off Scotland and secure the Carling Nations Cup, with his side securing an impressive 100% record from their three games without conceding a goal.
Keane, playing in his 107th international game, was rightly delighted to have equalled the goals record for any of the home nations and now requires one more to move past the tally Charlton acheived for England.
He told Sky Sports: “Equalling the record is great - it’s what we’ve been talking about all week, equalling with Bobby Charlton’s record and obviously very pleased to do that.
“But the most important thing is, like any international game, winning and getting our confidence up and now our preparation is for next Saturday so we’re fully focused for that.”
Keane is now hoping to take the momentum gathered from the two victories in the last week and gain a victory against Macedonia next Saturday.
He added: “Of course it’s been a good week. All you want when you come to a camp is to get the confidence going through the camp and that is certainly what happened.
“Two wins in the last week is great and we are hoping to take that into the next game against Macedonia.”
