thumbnail Hello,

The England international has been handed the armband ahead of Darren Fletcher, Louis van Gaal's usual skipper, while Rickie Lambert and Raheem Sterling lead the Merseyside attack

Wayne Rooney captains Manchester United for the International Champions Cup final meeting with Liverpool, while Brendan Rodgers has handed Rickie Lambert a further chance to impress.

Darren Fletcher has previously been the recipient of the armband during pre-season, but, despite the Scottish midfielder’s presence in the starting XI, it is Rooney who will lead out Louis van Gaal's side in Miami.

The England international is partnered up front by Javier Hernandez, even though the Mexican has been linked with a summer transfer, with Juan Mata in the hole. Danny Welbeck picked up an injury against Real Madrid and is unavailable.

Ashley Young, fresh from scoring against Los Blancos, continues at left wing-back, with Antonio Valencia on the right, while new recruit Ander Herrera is picked in midfield.

Liverpool, meanwhile, persist with Lambert despite his problematic start to life at Anfield - the striker surprisingly missing a penalty last time out - and he will link up with Raheem Sterling due to Daniel Sturridge's absence.

Skipper Steven Gerrard is accompanied by Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson in midfield as Rodgers picks a strong side to try and claim ICC glory.

Manchester United starting XI:
De Gea; Evans, Smalling, Jones; Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher, Young; Mata; Rooney, Hernandez

Liverpool starting XI: Mignolet; Kelly, Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho; Gerrard, Allen, Henderson; Coutinho, Lambert, Sterling.
