thumbnail Hello,

The Canaries kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 3-0 win over Mexican side Dorados, with Luciano Becchio, Anthony Pilkington and Josh Murphy scoring

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton was happy with the way his side played as they opened their pre-season campaign with a victory.

The Canaries began their tour of the United States with a 3-0 win over Mexican side Dorados and Hughton expressed his satisfaction with what he saw.

After a goalless first half, the former Newcastle boss made five changes at the break, and Luciano Becchio opened the scoring soon after, with Anthony Pilkington and Josh Murphy also notching, but the manager preferred to focus on the performance rather than the result.

“In some ways it was a typical first pre-season game. We took our time to get going," Hughton told the club's official website. "They showed some really good touches in that first period I thought and we had to defend well.

"Sometimes in these types of games it is all about the first goal and you could see it opened up then. That is exactly how it panned out. I thought we were able to introduce some players that made us a bit stronger overall and we were able to capitalise on that.

"The changes we made at half-time were decided in advance. Generally, the ones who came off I only wanted to play 45 minutes. But whatever team I had picked to start that first half I’m not sure it would have altered the flow of the game."

New signings Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Leroy Fer were not involved, but Hughton confirmed they were in his plans for the second of their three-match tour against San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.
