Gareth Bale kicked off the Premier League side's pre-season with another screamer, before Andy Williams netted an equaliser 15 minutes from time at the County Ground

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has praised "a good first show" from his team after their 1-1 draw with Swindon Town on Tuesday.

The Portuguese named a strong side for Tottenham's opening pre-season fixture at the County Ground, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe and Gylfi Sigurdsson all included.

However, their contest against the League One side was more competitive than many expected as Bale's first-half screamer was levelled by Swindon striker Andy Williams 15 minutes from time -but Villas-Boas declared himself satisfied following the game.

"We had some good moments. Overall, I think a good first show from the team," he told the club's official website.

"We had some good chances. We're trying to build up physically, some good points to take and we won't stop working hard.

"We have to congratulate Swindon, they played very well including our players on loan."

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris was also pleased with the run-out, praising the efforts of their lower-league opposition.

"It was a good game, its important to have time to prepare for next season and have minutes on the pitch," the France international said.

"It's important to work hard in training but to play a game against a tough team is good for us to be ready for next season."

Tottenham will now continue their preparations with another friendly against Colchester on Friday before they head off on a tour of Asia.
