Real Madrid centre-back Pepe has suffered an injury blow during the Spanish giants' final pre-season game against LA Galaxy.
The club announced that the defender will need further tests after limping off in the 3-2 victory against the MLS side in the US on Saturday evening.
Madrid came from 2-0 down in the first-half to snatch victory and end their tour of North America on a winning note.
However, it now seems that los Blancos' win may have come at a price. The Portuguese international came on for fellow centre-back Raul Albiol at the start of the second half and played for the remainder of the match. Yet Madrid have now revealed Pepe has sustained an injury.
"Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira, 'Pepe', finished the match against the LA Galaxy with discomfort on his left soleus and has possibly sustained an injury. Further tests are pending," read a statement on the Spanish club's official website.
The 27-year-old missed much of the 2009-10 campaign with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but recovered in time to feature at World Cup 2010 for Portugal
