Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann had to make a vital save to stop Cheltenham Town from equalising at Whaddon Road as the Premier League side escaped with a 1-0 friendly win.
Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy put out a strong side against the Robins which included the likes of recent signing Steven Mouyokolo.
McCarthy also called on Marcus Hahnemann, Sam Vokes and Andrew Keogh to start the match, clearly intent on gaining a positive result from the pre-season workout with just over two weeks remaining until the start of the new Premier League season.Wolves first chance of the game came after eight minutes when Dave Davis struck a poor shot from 20-yards out.
Wanderers did, however, get closer to goal after Nenad Milijas gleamed over the crossbar from a free-kick on the edge of the box.
The Premier League side came into their stride against the Robins with some clever passing and could have scored through Bia Mujangi after a driving run saw him clear in the area but he failed to get past Gallinagh to get the strike in.
Wolves pressure finally told with a goal in the 27th minute of the first half from Keogh who scored with a 20-yard strike.
The Republic of Ireland striker was involved in good build up play and a pass from McGroary opened the way for Keogh to hit the back of the net.
Cheltenham made more of an impact in the second half with pressure from substitute Dave Bird which forced keeper Hahnemann to make some crucial saves.
The biggest chance of the game fell to Robins midfielder Smikle, when he was gifted an open goal but failed to equalise at Whaddon Road.
Mark Yates' side managed to pile on the pressure towards the end of the game with Danny Andrew causing trouble but despite crossing a perfect ball into Lowe, he was denied by Hahnemann who made a fine double save.
The League Two side, who haven't scored in their last three matches, couldn't do enough to equalise as Wolves held on to claim the win.
Wolves XI: Hahnemann, McGroary, Malone, Mouyokolo (Batth, 71) Hill, Davis (Rooney, ), Mujangi-Bia (Dunleavy, 78), Milijaš, Vokes, Keogh, Winnall.
