Rangers manager Walter Smith worried about Kenny Miller's long-term fitness
Recurring shin splints problem causing alarm...
By Matt Monaghan
Miller, 30, is the star turn at the Glasgow giants after they shed six first-team players from their Scottish Premier League-winning squad. With Kris Boyd and Nacho Novo moving on to pastures new due to the club's £30 million debt, the Scotland international's repeat shin splints condition has caused alarm.
Speaking to the Press Association after Miller was forced off after an hour in this afternoon's 0-0 friendly draw with Sydney FC, Smith declared he was keeping an eye on the centre forward.
"Kenny came off with the same problem that has been bothering him and we just have to watch it doesn't become a chronic one," Smith revealed.
"It's one of those things which is okay during the game but as soon as he stops it causes him a bit of pain.
"Hopefully we can get over the weekend's game because when we travel back he will then have a few days' recovery and he won't have to play against Clyde next midweek."
Smith had better news about Kyle Lafferty and Lee McCulloch, after they were withdrawn as they struggled to compete on a waterlogged pitch.
"Kyle had a little bit of cramp in his calf as you'd expect because he did a lot of running tonight," he added.
"He'll be okay and the same should apply to Lee and he just took a kick."
