Barcelona target Cesc Fabregas is bracing himself for a backlash from Arsenal fans at an open training session on Tuesday, according to the Daily Express.

Fabregas, 23, has been linked continually to a return to the side he represented as a youngster, with the La Liga champions' increasingly public approaches riling the Gunners hierarchy.

Although not ready to feature in the Emirates Cup this weekend after his World Cup winning exertions, he is expected to practice at a members' day and take part in a squad photo call.

After earlier telling manager Arsene Wenger of his desire to force through a transfer to Barcelona, Fabregas is understood to be resigned to staying in north London for another season at least.

The club remain hopeful this stance has not alienated their skipper from the support. According to Castrol Football's extensive analysis of European football, Fabregas was the 25th best player on the continent last season, and the Gunners will need him to hit that form again if they are to end a five-year trophy drought.
