Sir Alex Ferguson: Manchester United's World Cup 2010 stars in contention for Dublin friendly

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Wayne Rooney and the rest of the club's World Cup 2010 superstars are set to make their return on August 4.

United head to Dublin on that date for a friendly against Aircity League XI in the first football match at the Aviva Stadium. With their Premier League campaign set to begin on August 16 against Newcastle United, players such as Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Ji-Sung Park can expect to be handed a run-out.

Speaking to the Press Association in Philadelphia, Ferguson said: "They have a chance of playing in that. It depends on their progress when they come back on July 28 [for training]."
