Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is the player most worthy of a spot in the 50 finest players of last season who failed to make the list, according to readers.

The 28-year-old midfielder gained 21.02 per cent of the vote after not making the list of players voted for by’s worldwide team of editors, which was won by Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Schweinsteiger finished narrowly ahead of Premier League pair Luka Modric and Fernando Torres, who received 16.44% and 15.22% respectively.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez just missed out on the top three with 14.69%, while experienced defender John Terry polled in at 12.40%.

The chasing pack was led by Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez, with 6.28%, while Wesley Sneijder ad Carles Puyol ranked joint-seventh with 4.04% each.

Samuel Eto'o, who now plies his trade in Russia with Anzhi, garnered a poor 3.78%, but was outdone by Real Madrid outcast Nuri Sahin - who managed to poll just 2.08% of the vote.
