Schweinsteiger finished narrowly ahead of Premier League pair Luka Modric and Fernando Torres, who received 16.44% and 15.22% respectively.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez just missed out on the top three with 14.69%, while experienced defender John Terry polled in at 12.40%.
The chasing pack was led by Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez, with 6.28%, while Wesley Sneijder ad Carles Puyol ranked joint-seventh with 4.04% each.
Samuel Eto'o, who now plies his trade in Russia with Anzhi, garnered a poor 3.78%, but was outdone by Real Madrid outcast Nuri Sahin - who managed to poll just 2.08% of the vote.
