The Spaniard came out on top in our poll of the best defenders from 2013-14 as part of the countdown to the Goal 50
The Spaniard enjoyed a wonderful season for Real Madrid both at the back and going forward, his finest hour arguably coming in the Champions League final when his goal forced Atletico Madrid into extra-time before Carlo Ancelotti's side triumphed 4-1.
He narrowly beat the Borussia Dortmund and Germany star, who took centre stage for Joachim Low's side as they won the World Cup for the first time in 24 years. Hummels landed 22% of the vote.
The next most popular choice was Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin, who scored the goal that secured his side Liga glory in dramatic fashion at Camp Nou and was but seconds away from deciding the Champions League final prior to Ramos' equaliser. The Uruguyan was backed by 17.6%.
Thiago Silva is widely seen as the finest player in his position but only managed fourth place after Brazil's World Cup failure, landing 12.4% of the vote.
Next up is Pablo Zabaleta, who delivered another season of consistent performances to help Manchester City win the Premier League, with Chelsea new-boy Filipe Luis and Roma's Medhdi Benatia coming sixth and seventh.
See how Ramos fared in the Goal 50 when the full rankings, including the winner, are announced on July 28.
