The Uefa president made no secret of his wish to see the Marseille coach take charge of the national team, should the current trainer's time have come to an end

Uefa president Michel Platini believes that Marseille coach Didier Deschamps would be a worthy successor to Laurent Blanc, should the French Football Federation (FFF) part ways with the 46-year-old next week.

The 43-year-old admitted on Friday that his time at Stade Velodrome is coming to an end, citing difficulties in the club's hierarchy as a main factor for his decision.

Meanwhile, the France national team position could become vacant in the coming weeks if Blanc and the FFF part ways, and Platini has made no secret of who he wants at the helm.

"If Laurent Blanc [leaves] it is a shame because he had indicated his wish to continue. But Didier Deschamps is among the very good coaches," the 57 year old was quoted as saying by RMC Sport.

"It is the [FFF] president who chooses. I do not think we have bad players. Progress has been made, we have potential but it is our place in the quarter-finals. Anyway, Didier Deschamps does know the team."

France return to competitive action in the World Cup qualifiers, which commence in September.
