Del Bosque compares Iniesta to Federer

The Spanish coach has compared the Barcelona midfielder to the former tennis world number one and considers them both to be 'extraordinary' sportsmen

Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has compared the extraordinary talents of Andres Iniesta to tennis star Roger Federer.

Del Bosque has hailed the ability of the Barcelona midfielder and believes that he possesses many of the same characteristics as the former world number one.

“Andres is playing very well. Technically he is perfect and he plays so naturally, almost without effort,” Del Bosque told RAC1.

7/2 Andres Iniesta is 7/2 with Bet365 to be voted Man of the Match against France

“It's like when [Roger] Federer plays tennis, he barely sweats. Iniesta [appears as if he] makes no effort to play. It's extraordinary that he is ours."

Cesc Fabregas started Spain’s opening game against Italy but lost his spot to Fernando Torres. With Xavi and Xabi Alonso already guaranteed their place in the Spanish midfield, Fabregas has had to settle for a place on the bench.

While the 61-year-old feels that the Barcelona midfielder is a starter for the squad, he claimed that there is competition for places within the team.

“I consider him a starter,” he continued. “I hold him in great esteem.

“He is such a good player, but you have to understand that there is a lot of competition here.

“It's hard to find room for so many good players and we have to be careful because every game is a final.”

Spain will lock horns with France in the quarter-finals in Donetsk on Saturday.
