Bendtner receives one-game ban and €100,000 fine for celebration

The Denmark striker has been charged by Uefa with improper conduct after exposing sponsored underwear, which he described as 'just a pair of lucky boxer shorts', against Portugal
Nicklas Bendtner has received a one-match ban and fine of €100,000 for improper conduct from Uefa following an incident in Denmark's Group B match with Portugal.

Bendtner was charged for revealing sponsored underwear, which he described as "just a pair of lucky boxer shorts", after scoring against Paulo Bento's team.

The Arsenal striker claimed to be unaware of the rule, with Paddy Power, the betting firm advertised on the underwear, posting a picture of the 24-year-old on their Twitter account.

Disciplinary proceedings were opened last week. The suspension applies to the next 2014 FIFA World Cup match, including the qualifying competition.

The forward had already been reprimanded by the Danish Football Association for his actions in Lviv. Bendtner can appeal the decision before Friday.
