Greece clash is 'most important match of our lives' - Poland captain Blaszczykowski

Co-hosts will begin the tournament in Warsaw against the 2004 champions on Friday evening and their captain and coach agree that they must not lose the clash

Jakub Blaszczykowski has described Poland's Euro 2012 opener against Greece as the “most important match of our lives.”

The Poles will open the tournament in Warsaw and the Borussia Dortmund man insisted his side must not be defeated in front of their home fans.

He told reporters: "For us it is the most important match of our lives. The most important thing is not to lose.”

Poland coach Franciszek Smuda echoed his captain's thoughts and highlighted Greece's defensive strength as a potential problem for the curtain-raiser.

Jakub Blaszczykowski is 10/1 with Paddy Power to score first when Poland face Greece on June 8.

"Obviously we would prefer to win," he added. "But it is an opening game, and a tie would mean we remain in the race, because then we would still have two games we can win.

"Their defence is great. They play perfectly in defence. Their defence is a big challenge for us."

Poland finished their pre-tournament warm-up games with a 4-0 victory over Andorra on Saturday.
