The 18-year-old midfielder is not too downbeat despite being dropped from the Oranje selection for the European Championship and believes he still has a bright future
The 18-year-old originally made Bert van Marwijk's preliminary list, making his debut in an Oranje shirt in the 3-2 friendly defeat to Bayern Munich last week.
However, the AZ attacker was unable to force his way into the final selection, joining Vurnon Anita, Jeremain Lens and Siem de Jong in being dropped. However, the youngster was not too downbeat.
"It's a pity, but after all I'm still delighted. My time will come. This is football. I will have to continue and prepare for next season," Maher told NIS.
"Of course, I would like to go to the Euros. But right now, I will go on holiday to Morocco with my parents."
Maher made 34 appearances in Eredivisie last season, scoring five league goals in the process.
