thumbnail Hello,

The Tottenham midfielder has been picked by Three Lions caretaker manager Stuart Pearce to lead his country in Wednesday’s match against the Netherlands at Wembley

POLL

England caretaker manager Stuart Pearce has named Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker as captain for Wednesday night’s clash with Netherlands.

Pearce's decision had been subject to much speculation before the game with many believing Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard deserved the role.

However, the former Newcastle United and Chelsea man has been handed the honour of leading the team out at Wembley in the absence of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand (who has said he does not want the armband again).

Although hypothetically the captaincy could change, it would be surprising if the favourite to land the job permanently, Harry Redknapp, was to replace the Three Lions skipper again before Euro 2012 unless Parker gets injured.
