Manchester United's Paul Scholes willing to come out of international retirement for England at Euro 2012 - report

The 37-year-old hasn't played for his country since 2004, but the lure of this summer's tournament might be too tempting for the veteran midfielder to miss

Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes is seriously considering coming out of international retirement to help England in this summer’s Euro 2012 Championships, according to The Sun.

The legendary midfielder returned to club action this season, despite calling it a day on his playing career at the end of last season.

United’s ailing injury list and lack of depth in the middle were given as reasons for Scholes’ comeback but he may now wish to go one step further.

Scholes turned down an opportunity to come out of international retirement back in 2010, rejecting then England manager Fabio Capello’s request for him to go to South Africa for the World Cup.

However, the Italian’s departure has led to Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp being installed as the favourite to lead his country into Euro 2012 and the Spurs man has revealed that he would take the midfielder to the tournament if given the chance.

Scholes has previously revealed regret over his decision not to go to South Africa, saying at the time: "I wish I had gone. I did feel as though I had made the wrong decision."

Scholes’ last appearance in an England shirt was eight years ago in Euro 2004 when Sven Goran Eriksson’s outfit were knocked out of the competition by Portugal on penalties in the quarter-finals.

14:20 BST -  Which leads me into some Germany news. Some slight source of worry for Joachim Low's hotly-tipped side is the defence - which it would be, when you lose 5-3 to Switzerland in a pre-tournament match - but Michael Zorc believes that Mats Hummels is the team's best centre-back and should start.

That's the Borussia Dortmund sporting director. Talking about the Dortmund player. I'm onto you, Zorc. I'm onto you.
