Fabio Cannavaro not surprised by Fabio Capello's decision to resign as England manager
The 38-year-old was managed at club level by Capello at Juventus and Real Madrid and admits he was "not astonished at all" to see him quit because he likes total control
By Michael Lightfoot
The World Cup-winning captain - who was managed by the 65-year-old at both Juventus and Real Madrid - says Capello did the right thing because he does not like decisions being made for him.
He told RMC: "I am not astonished at all by his decision to quit the English post. I know him well, he didn't want that someone imposes a decision to him.
"He is different from [Marcello] Lippi and [Carlo] Ancelotti, but he is also a very big coach. To his players, he can cause fear, but also make them progress."
Capello was already going to the leave the job after Euro 2012 but his decision to do so this week, four months before the start of the competition, comes after the FA and the Italian's disagreement over the removal of Chelsea defender John Terry as captain of the national side.
Meanwhile, Cannavaro also went on to concede that the footage that emerged of him having the drug Neoton inserted into his arm ahead of the Uefa Cup final in 1999 was a mistake.
The former defender, who was part of the Parma side that won 3-0 against Marseille in the final, added: "The products all were authorized, to make this video was an error of me.
"Against l'OM our team was so strong that we would have beaten everyone."
